Meldro Gongkar County

Meldro Gongkar is administered from the town of Meldro Gongkar which is 67km east of Lhasa city and extends from the Gyamashing valley, due east of Lamo in the south and as far as Drigung in the north. The capital of Meldro Gongkar county is Meldro Gongkar town.

The most important sites within the county are Gyama, the birthplace of King Songtsen Gampo, Uru Katsel, a 7th-century geometric temple, Tangkya Lhakhang on the north bank of the Kyi-chu and Urushva Lhakhang, an ancient 9th century Nyingma temple. Then there is Drigung Til monastery and Tidrum nunnery hermitage.
