Barkhor Street is the oldest and the most famous street in Lhasa City. It is located at the heart of Lhasa city, circling the Jokhang Temple. It was the biggest marketplace in ancient Tibet. Nowadays, it consists of shops, restaurants, hotels, and also temples. Barkhor is the busiest street in Lhasa and receives thousands of domestic and international tourists and pilgrims.

It was constructed in 1716 by immigrants from Ladakh and Kashmir in the 17th century.
