Chushul County

Chushul county

The valley of the Lower Kyi-chu extends from Lhasa southwards and includes important sites on both banks of the river, as far as its confluence with the Brahmaputra, which is spanned by the Chushul Zamchen bridge. On the south bank of the Brahmaputra opposite the Chushul confluence is the sacred Mount Chuwori. Four main roads diverge at Chushul: due west to Shigatse via Nyemo and northeast to Lhasa (both on the north bank of the Brahmaputra), and southwest to Gyantse via Gampa La and Lake Yamdrok, or due east to Gongkar Airport and Tsedang (both on the south bank of the Brahmaputra). The distance from Lhasa to Chushul is 36 kilometers on an excellent paved surface and a further eight kilometers to the bridge at Dagar.
